These National guidelines are evidence-based and considers global recommendations as well as experience of clinicians from the Indian state of Punjab.
All patients who are infected with HCV and have detectable HCV RNA are eligible for treatment.
Once hepatitis C infection is confirmed by HCV RNA, baseline investigations should comprise APRI, FIB-4, and elastograpy to determine the development of cirrhosis.
If cirrhosis is absent, sofosbuvir (SOF) and daclatasvir (DCV) should be prescribed for 12 weeks. If present, SOF and velpatasvir (VEL) should be given for 12 weeks.
After 12 weeks of treatment, HCV RNA should be tested again. A negative results indicates completion of the treatment.
In case HCV RNA is detected, the patient should be referred to a specialized center for further management.
